    Alain Delon was only a few years younger than my mom, but I knew him throughout my life, meaning I saw his face as a child. Over the years, I have purchased postcards and 8x10 glossy photo portraits of him through the Samuel French Bookstore on Hollywood Boulevard. So, for the last 50 years, I have always had a picture of Delon somewhere in the house. It wasn’t until the 1980s that I started to appreciate his work as an actor in a series of great films such as Le Samourai, Purple Noon, Any Number Can Win, Mr. Klein, and La Piscine (Swimming Pool). I love those films, but I love looking at his face. It wasn’t a sexual feeling but more of looking at a work, admiring aspects of his features, and seeing how flawlessly everything fit together on his face. I wanted a face like that. He was essentially a work of sculpture.

    There are a few photographs of Delon as a child, and of course, he was a beautiful kid. It seems unnatural how good-looking he was, even at a young age.
